Is Artificial Grass Waterproof?

Does artificial grass let water through?

This is a common question about artificial grass, particularly from customers who have lawns that don’t get much sun and can’t absorb water.

There’s no need to be concerned about water drainage with artificial grass; It drains water as well as regular grass, if not better in some circumstances.

After removing the old lawn to a depth of 60 to 80mm, a sub-base of type 1 limestone is laid down, followed by a layer of grano dust. Because it is formed of permeable elements, limestone is the most porous sort of aggregate. This evenly and consistently covers the entire lawn area, ensuring a stable drainage basis for years to come.

The roll of grass has a holed backing that is hidden within the pile height and is not visible when installed. Water drains directly into the aggregate foundation below through these perforations.

What happens when artificial grass gets wet?

Despite the fact that this low-water landscaping solution does not require irrigation, it can get wet.

In reality, most homeowners clean their synthetic grass with water if it becomes dusty or in areas where pets use the potty.

The perforated backing of synthetic turf allows water to escape through the turf and into the sub-base, which is specifically constructed to promote appropriate drainage. As a result, getting your artificial grass wet is entirely acceptable.

In fact, when it comes to performance and owner satisfaction after getting wet from errant sprinklers or rain, a synthetic lawn outperforms natural grass. After a hard storm, it can take days for your natural grass to dry out enough for your children or pets to play on it.

Furthermore, if somebody walks through your natural lawn during or after it rains, they are quite likely to track dirt and wet grass blades inside your home.

Synthetic turf, on the other hand, does not have this problem. An artificial grass lawn does not collect mud, and your children or pets can play on it during or shortly after a rainstorm. Rain may also clean your fake grass for you, saving you the time it would have taken to rinse it down with a garden hose to eliminate dust.
