Edging for your fake grass installation
To accommodate the new base and install your artificial lawn, you'll need something around to help keep it. Otherwise, improper compaction of the base will expose the edge of the grass. This could mean your pet or someone else can easily pull it up.
Below, we'll start with the five main reasons you need boundaries when installing artificial turf.
1. The slope in your garden
If your garden is on a slope or on a hill, you will need a wood border or sleeper to make sure your grass is fixed. Otherwise, over time, it could move or slide down the hill. Nail the grass to the edge of the wood to keep it still.
2. Your pet pulls the edge up
This is a very rare condition, but if you're worried that your particularly energetic dog (or cat) will pull up the grass around your edges, wood or sleepers are also a good option. This will eliminate any chance of your lawn moving and your pet will not be able to drag the edge.
3. You're installing an artificial lawn
Another reason to set boundaries is if you want to grow your own greenery on your lawn. This is because your green is likely to be surrounded by other grass, so you'll need something to separate it and make sure the base is properly compact.
4. There's no place to sit on your lawn
If your lawn doesn't have walls or a place to sit, you'll also need to install a border. This is to ensure that the subbase will be properly compressed and the edges of your grass will not be exposed.
5. You need to build your own garden
To build your garden, wood sleepers are recommended. That's because they're deeper and tend to be cheaper. However, you can also use decorative panels or bricks on the edges. It depends on how high the ground is raised.
