1. Bromeless
The leaf tips of Bromeliaceae are closed near the leaf ring, forming a "V"-shaped sweater collar. There are obvious "W"-shaped marks on the leaves. Bromeless has characteristics in some aspects that make it suitable for turfgrass. However, under the condition of low maintenance, extensive and sparse lawns are formed, so they are mainly used for slope protection and facility lawns with low maintenance levels on highways.
2. Ice grass
Agropyron has curly leaf buds, a long membranous tongue, cilia on the edge of the tongue, and claw-shaped ears. The flat spike grass is a clump type, while the blue-stemmed ice grass has rhizomes. As turfgrass, wheatgrass is mainly used in dry and cold areas, especially in non-irrigated conditions. The bluegrass is used when it cannot grow normally, and it is mainly limited to courtyard lawns and golf course lawns. The lawn is more beautiful in the early stage, and the density of the lawn is not as good as that of bluegrass and perennial ryegrass.
3. Timothy
The leaves are curled in the buds of Timothy grass, with pointed tip and obvious membranous tongue. The base of the stem has obvious swelling and is blocky and thick. The other types of cold-season turfgrass with this structure are only Kentucky bluegrass. The bulbous bluegrass has boat-shaped leaf tips with folded leaves in the bud. There are two types of timothy grasses used in lawns, and timothy grasses are coarse weeds in cold-season lawns. Timograss is a lawn-type Timograss, and some people use it to build racecourse lawns in Europe.
4. Dactylis
Dactylis has a boat-shaped tip and folded leaves in the buds. These two points are similar to Poa pratensis. But the leaves are wider and lighter than the bluegrass. The leaves are slightly flattened and compressed, and the membranous tongue is the longest among cold-season turfgrass.
5. Puccinellia
Puccinellia is in clusters, gray-green in color, with curled leaves in the buds and membranous tongues. The panicles bloom from summer to autumn. Puccinellia tenuiflora has strong resistance to Na in the soil, and is mainly used for turf planting and highway slope protection in saline-alkali soil areas. 'Faci' is the main species of Puccinellia tenuiflora.
